The resolution will surely fail, as not enough Democrats are on board and Republicans still control the House. Rep. Al Green of Texas, a Democrat, plans to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump in the House on Wednesday, after months of threats to take action. Though Green's effort will most assuredly fail, he intends to force an up or down vote on the House floor through a privileged resolution. BuzzFeed News reported on Tuesday that Green sent a letter to colleagues outlining the impeachment charges against Trump. Green's resolution claims that Trump has been harmful to the US, citing various comments the president has made, such as referring to white nationalist protesters as "very fine people" and describing Rep. Frederica Wilson as "whacky" on multiple occasions. In addition, Green considers certain executive actions by Trump to be "inciting hatred and hosti

The Week - Six female Democratic senators called on Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to step down Wednesday, just hours after a seventh woman accused him of inappropriate conduct, BuzzFeed News reports. In a lengthy Facebook post, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) described her disappointment in learning her "friend" had "engaged in behavior towards women that is unacceptable." "Enough is enough," Gillibrand wrote. "The women who have come forward are brave and I believe them." Democratic Sens. Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Mazie Hirono (Hawaii), Patty Murray (Wash.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), and Kamala Harris (Calif.) also added their voices to the chorus: It is clear that Al Franken has engaged in a pattern of egregious and unacceptable behavior toward women. He should resign. ? Sen. Maggie Hassan (@SenatorHassan) December 6, 2017 Today, I am calling on my colleague Al Franken to step aside. I've struggled with this decision because he's been a good Senator and I consider him a friend. But that cannot exc

The Week - An attempt by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) to impeach President Trump overwhelmingly failed in the House on Wednesday in a 364-58 vote, The Associated Press reports. "Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment," Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a joint statement ahead of the vote. Green has called for impeaching Trump since May, BuzzFeed News reports, although many of his Democratic colleagues believe any attempt at unseating the president should be held off at least until a conclusion is reached by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. A majority of Democrats voted against Green's resolution, and its merits were not debated. Watch Green introduce the Articles of Impeachment below. Rep. What's the Cure for Ailing Mashable, BuzzFeed and Other Online News Sites?

Laredo Morning Times - The news this week that Mashable would lay off 50 employees in the wake of a fire sale to Ziff Davis for $50 million is a sign of the times in digital news. Just two years ago the company was valued at $250 million and won $15 million in new funding from Time Warner. Now a plunging valuation has become a painfully common affair across the digital space for both small players and industry titans. Last week, BuzzFeed axed 100 employees and delayed a planned IPO after missing expected 2017 revenues by as much as 20 percent. A traffic drop prompted Mic.com's much-maligned "pivot to video" - and dozens of layoffs.
